These Greenstone Jade Toki Earrings are made from nephrite jade, otherwise known in various countries as greenstone.
The earrings are carved in the shape of an adze, or Toki.
The Toki (adze) was an important Maori implement, used to chip and shave wood and stone, and sometimes used as a weapon. In bone or greenstone jewellery, it was traditionally worn by Maori elders, as it represented power, wisdom and authority.
The earrings are approximately 3.4cm (1 3/8") long.
